  • From December 1978 to October 1983 he attended the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Pisa, participating to the assistential and scientific activities.
  • From March 1st, 1979 to August 31st, 1979 he attended a six month internship, as provided by the Law 148 of April 18th, 1975, and by the Ministerial Decree of October 28th, 1975, in Orthopedics and Traumatology, and at the Orthopedic Clinic of the University of Pisa, with positive final exam and top grades.
  • From November 2nd, 1983 to November 1st, 1984, and from January 29th, 1985 to January 28th, 1986 he attended, authorized by the Institute Administration, the outbuilding clinicized departmental structure of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute of Bologna, directed by Prof. P.G. Marchetti, actively participating to the several didactic-scientific activities.
  • From July 19th, 1989, to January 15th, 1990, he has been charged, full time, temporary Medical-Orthopedics and Traumatology Assistant at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute.

  • From May 13th, 2002 to August 27th, 2009 he has been in charge of the Departmental Unit of 2nd Level Orthopedic Traumatology, which has become the Section C of Orthopedic-Traumatology Surgery of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute after the deliberative act n. 279. 
  • From August 27th, 2009 he is Director of the Complex Operative Unit of Orthopedics in Bentivoglio (Orthopedics Unit of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute at the Hospital of Bentivoglio).

Scientific activities

From December 1986 to July 19th, 1989 he held a research contract, pertaining to the research area “Orthopedic Pathology”, at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute of Bologna.

He participated to several research projects of the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, and has been in charge of the current research project n. 94055: “New technologies in applied biomechanics”.
Since the deliberation 109 of February 27th, 2009, he collaborates on the analysis and study of computer-guided surgery for the implant of ankles prosthesis.

Author of over 70 scientific publications, printed on national and international specialist reviews, and of 3 monographs and specialist multimedial material.
Speaker (over 60 communications of scientific relations and posters) at national and international congresses.
International member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons; member of SIOT.

Clinical and/or Scientific interests

He studied foot orthopaedic surgery and reconstructive ankle surgery. In particular, he obtained a specific experience in revisional ankle prosthesis surgery. In the last few years he has been especially focusing his interest on reconstructive post-traumatic surgery and on surgery after trauma diagnoses, gaining specific expertise on several systems of internal and external osteosintesis.
He performed 6000 surgical interventions as first operator.
