At the Rizzoli Hospital, admission can only take place on the recommendation of an Institute specialist.
Some admissions are limited to a single day, or take place in day surgery.
Since the hospital has an Orthopaedic-Traumatology Emergency Department, many admissions are ordered on an "emergency" basis by the specialist on duty; with the exception of emergency admissions, all other admissions are 'planned'.
This is a hospitalisation programmed in time, with the booking entered in the appropriate register (waiting list). Hospitalisation is paid for by the National Health Service (SSN).
Admission to Day Surgery
Admission to Day Surgery is an admission that involves performing surgery in the morning and discharge in the late afternoon of the same day of surgery.
If the doctor deems it appropriate, the patient may be asked to come to the Day Surgery Outpatient Clinic the day after surgery for a check-up, or at another location indicated by the orthopaedic doctor (from 8.30 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.).
If the orthopaedic doctor, hearding the opinion of the anaesthetist, deems it advisable to prolong hospitalisation, the patient will be transferred to the orthopaedics and traumatology department for further treatment.
In case of private hospitalisation the patient can choose the physician or the team for the surgical operation.
For international patients a dedicated page is available with all useful information.
